There’s tangible wisdom to many ancient medicinal practices, many of which have real and natural benefits. One of our favourite natural and ancient remedies is cupping therapy, also called myofascial cupping. We swear by the benefits of this form of alternative medicine and really encourage you to give it a go. Not sure what cupping is? Read on!
This technique has been consistently practiced in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe for hundreds, maybe thousands of years, and can even be dated back to around 3300 BC. It involves the application of special cups to select areas of your body, creating suction against your skin through heat or manual pressure. The cups are then either left on your skin for a few minutes, or are moved in quick and rhythmic strokes over your muscle groups. This will depend on the treatment plan that your RMT will determine that you would benefit the most from.
Cupping has the ability to help with:
- Fascial restrictions
- Muscle pain
- Restricted range of motion
- Detoxification
- Inflammation
- Blood flow
- Relaxation
- Wellbeing
An added fun fact? Cupping can act as a sort of deep tissue massage! The benefits to cupping are plentiful, and many people have turned to cupping to help them in their day-to-day lives. Did you notice Michael Phelps’ purple marks on his shoulders in the 2016 Summer Olympics? He’s a big advocate for cupping. If it’s good enough for Phelps, then it’s definitely worth trying for you!
The benefits sound incredible, and you’re excited to try out this treatment, but what else do you need to know? You’ll likely be left with blood stagnation in the tissue, redness, and swelling in the areas where the cups were applied. This isn’t long-lasting and will go away within a few weeks! The treatment is usually done in areas that are hidden by regular clothing, anyway!
Here at KNOTS, we offer two appointment types for myofascial cupping:
- 30-minute Cupping Appointment - $65
- 60-minute Cupping + Massage Appointment - $100
With the cupping & massage option, you’ll get the added benefits of a regenerative and relaxing massage, which will also increase blood flow even more to the areas that need it most! This option would give you a full hour of bodywork, and you’ll leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. If you’re a little pressed for time, the 30-minute cupping option is still an incredible treatment!
Once you try cupping therapy, you’ll very quickly understand just how amazing this treatment is. The ancients really did know what they were talking about when it comes to this! Please prebook your appointment for this ancient and alternative treatment to ensure that you get a date and time that’s ideal for you. We’re so excited to go on this journey with you!
